For many older people simple household tasks, like shopping, or even changing a light bulb, can be a daunting, or impossible prospect. Our Home Services tackle these problems in a simple yet effective way, and all can be accessed by phoning our offices at Bradbury House.
What is Home Support?
Age Concern Luton has over 50 Home Support Workers’ in Luton providing help to older people. These staff members undertake a variety of household tasks including shopping, cleaning, laundry, and pension collection.
Home Support Workers’ do not do personal care, but can help with pretty much everything else around the home! All Service Users are assessed by qualified Age Concern Luton staff, and applications for benefits, and additional services, are made by our in-house teams.
Achievements
Our Home Support service has passed Luton Borough Council’s accreditation process. In a Luton Borough Council poll seven eighths of our customers were very satisfied, and the other eighth satisfied, with the standard of our work.
Our team are all Criminal Records Bureau and reference checked, and receive regular training to ensure they continue to meet the service’s high standards. Home Support is subsidised through the money we make in our charity shops, and is therefore the cheapest in Luton.
What is Home Repair?
Our Home Repair or Handyman service offers practical help to older people who need repairs, or adaptations
to their homes. There is a real need for this service in Luton, and this project helps over 100 older people each month.
Our Handymen have fitted hundreds of key-safes, painted and decorated dozens of rooms, helped more than a hundred people move house, and undertaken countless home safety checks, all at no cost to older people!
Age Concern Luton also offers a gardening service. Unlike other gardening services Age Concern Luton charge by the hour and not the day. This means that small jobs like weeding or cutting the grass can be done for older people without costing a fortune. Many older people need help with their gardens, and demand for this service is very high.
Achievements
Our Home Repair service has exceeded all targets set by funders, and helped three times as many people as predicted! We regularly receive letters of thanks praising our team and their high standards of work.
