Volunteering
Why volunteer?
Volunteering is an excellent way to get involved, meet people, and give something back to the community.
The vast majority of people who do volunteer find it rewarding, make friends, and help improve the place where they live!
Volunteering at Age Concern Luton
Age Concern Luton relies heavily on donations. This is not just donations of money, or clothes, but also donations of time.
None of what we do would be possible without the hard work and commitment of our volunteers. Volunteers are at the heart of what we do, and benefit the organisation, and Luton’s older people, in many different ways.
We currently have over 300 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, though we are constantly looking for new people to help us improve the quality of life for older people.
Volunteer Positions
Volunteer Visitor – Volunteer visitors go to the homes of lonely older people to sit and chat for about an hour or so each week. For many older people this is their only contact with other people, and provides them with much needed company. Many older people and visitors have forged excellent friendships from this scheme.
Shop Volunteer – Shop volunteers help the shop manager in all aspects of the shop. This may mean sorting through donations, getting stock ready for sale, and all aspects of customer service. Shop volunteers gain valuable experience, get to work in a team, and play an important part in allowing the charity to help older people.
Reception Volunteer – Reception volunteers help answer the phone and receive people at Bradbury House. These volunteers play a pivotal role as they are often the first point of contact between Age Concern Luton and the public, and so a sensitive and professional manner is needed at all times.
Club Volunteer – Club volunteers help with the set up, activities, and running of clubs. Volunteers can help at existing clubs from something as simple as making tea and washing up, to, if properly qualified, giving keep-fit or craft classes. Age Concern Luton also works with older people, and groups of older people, to start their own clubs.
If you are interested in any of the above positions, or have any skills which you think could be valuable to Age Concern Luton, please do not hesitate to contact us.
