Coronavirus Update 13-3-20

This morning we’ve taken quite a few calls regarding Coronavirus and the effect this will have on Age Concern Luton’s capacity to deliver services and how people, who want to, can help.

For clarity we are being led by the Government advice and that of the people using our services and this is essentially to continue delivering all our services.

We are fortunate that our committed and caring team of staff and volunteers continually impress us with the capacity to go above and beyond to help Luton’s older people.

We also want to thank the older people and carers we help for accepting our need to build in more resilience and that things like handyman jobs might take a little bit longer to allow us capacity to support those with immediate needs.

Finally we’d like to thank the people of Luton for so many kind offers of help!  At the moment we would encourage people to think local and try to look out for their elderly neighbours.

In summary;

  1. Age Concern Luton is continuing to work as normal
  2. All staff and volunteers will follow government advice re: self-isolation
  3. Some services might see increased wait time to allow us to respond to urgent demands
  4. Please look out for your neighbours both in terms of making sure they have enough to eat (or gas/electric on the meter) but also so they are not too isolated (phone them if not appropriate to visit)!

We’d also like to remind people that not everyone has the means to stockpile food and Luton’s Foodbank is currently desperate for a number of items (link here)
